We strive to bring new and exciting course offerings to licensing professionals each year.  It’s easy to find an instructor providing continuing education, it is difficult to find instructors providing new and relevant education each year.

Seminar offerings from Gregory Enterprises are developed annually based on code updates, building trends, and licensee feedback.

Course Offerings for General Contractors

Our course offerings are designed to keep you apprised of recent changes in the NC Building Code and modern building techniques while presenting real-world failure analysis and case studies.

The course objective is to bring roof covering concerns related to wrinkles, buckles, and improper installations to the attention of the general contractor by providing a basic understanding of the systems to enable the general contractor to seek and find solutions, such as field inspections.

After this course the general contractor will know how to diagnose and prevent defective roofing installations to avoid improper installation and consumer complaints. This course will also introduce a general contractor to underlayment failures related to moisture and overexposure.

The first half of this course will allow the student to gain an understanding of Arc Fault and Ground Fault circuit interrupters, why they are needed, how they work, and where they are required. The module will explore consumer complaints related to nuisance tripping of shared circuits and how the contractor can eliminate this condition within code compliance.

The second half of this course will be for the student to gain an understanding of the dedicated circuits, dual/combination AFCI and surge protector systems. This module will enable the contractor to understand the importance of taking part in the specification of AFCI, GFCI and Surge systems for their projects.

The goal of this course is to review basic theories related to truss systems, truss requirements, and related failures. At the end of this course the builder should have a renewed understanding of the mechanisms of a truss and how to ensure that trusses are properly stored, braced and installed.

The course will provide framing examples related to over-framing and bracing to utilize technical knowledge gained from earlier in the course. We will discuss bearing specifications, two pieces trusses and acceptable allowanced for bowing and lean.

The goals of the course are to provide an introduction and basic understanding of key drainage paths that can be used for defect identification related to moisture intrusion, and wood decay.

This course examines how residential building codes have advanced, and why they were updated. Learn how to use forensic evidence to determine modes of failure for exterior siding systems and the Weather-Resistant Barrier.

The purpose of this course is to examine the relationship between Mold and water leading to the causes of Bio-Deterioration in Wood.

This course examines water penetration and condensation that can lead to wood decay in structures. It also seeks to differentiate between simple molds and complex fungal growths that are considered wood destroying.

The purpose of this multi-part course series is to examine venting principles, air supply configurations, and prohibited locations.

After discussing these details of mechanical systems, we will review manufacturer specifications and combustion air pathways on direct vent and natural draft units located in a variety of potentially vented/unvented scenarios.

The North Carolina Mandatory Update Course for Licensed General Contractors is a 2 hour update course designed by the NC General Contractors Licensing Board.

The first section will review NC laws and general statutes applicable to practicing license holders. Part 2 will explore the complaints process. We will use case studies with video and written evidence. This is designed to aid license holders in navigating the complaints process.
